Over the years I've built up hands-on experience across most areas of digital marketing. SEO, email, paid ads, social media, content, and print. Not because I set out to learn everything at once, but because working across different businesses meant picking up whatever was needed at the time.


That breadth is useful, not because I do all of it for every client, but because I know what each discipline can and can't do. I've seen what works. More importantly, I've seen what doesn't.


And usually it's the unglamorous, unsexy stuff that delivers, not the shiny new tactic everyone's excited about this month. Keeping things simple, focusing on the areas that deliver the most results, rather than trying to do everything at once.

There's a tendency in marketing to overcomplicate things. More channels, more tactics, more strategy documents. Usually because complexity looks like value, and looking like value is how agencies justify their fees.


I think the opposite. Most small businesses need a small number of things done consistently and done well.


That's not a revolutionary insight. But it's remarkable how rarely it actually happens because most people selling marketing are too busy selling you the next thing to focus on the right thing.

Two posts a week for six months beats ten posts in January then nothing. Showing up regularly is the whole game.

A phone photo of a finished job beats a designed graphic. People hiring a tradesman want to see the work, not a logo.

Showing up for "plumber Sheffield" matters infinitely more than going viral. Your customers are down the road.
